We are thrilled to share a momentous beginning to the year! The stars have truly aligned, and we are starting to see the fruits of our dedicated efforts. We are overjoyed to announce that Joseph Kecskemeti, with five decades of experience in Waldorf education, will be joining us as our new Hakea educator, with the continued support of the wonderful Tamara!

Meet Joseph Kecskemeti:

Joseph brings a rich tapestry of experience, having been a teacher for more than 40 years across Government, Independent, Catholic, and Steiner schools. His journey began in electronic engineering, inspired by a passion for astronomy and cosmology, but life led him to fine art and education in Tasmania. As a founding member of the Tarremah Steiner School in Hobart, Joseph has been a pivotal force in Steiner education, guiding students from foundation classes to graduation.

His journey has taken him through numerous Steiner schools, including a notable seven years at a Steiner stream in Melbourne. In 2007, he explored the vibrant relationship between Steiner schools and the Hungarian government, and later served as Head of School at Freshwater Creek Steiner School. After an inspiring tenure, Joseph retired from his role at Mount Barker Waldorf School in December 2024.

Joseph’s deep connection to anthroposophy began at 14 with Rudolf Steiner’s Knowledge of the Higher Worlds and Its Attainment. This foundation led to extensive studies in Goethe’s theory of color and light, and the spiritual signatures found in nature. His academic pursuits included papers on Steiner’s epistemology and educational philosophy, which he championed globally.

Throughout his career, Joseph has been a passionate advocate for Waldorf education, delivering talks to diverse audiences, editing the Journal for Anthroposophy in Australia, and serving as a keynote speaker at an international conference in China. His dedication to the spiritual science behind education, combined with a love for levity and humor, continues to inspire his work with children.

Now residing on the beautiful southern Fleurieu Peninsula, Joseph enjoys sailing, gardening, and bushwalking. We are honored to welcome Joseph into our community, and we look forward to the wisdom and warmth he will bring to our Hakea program.

Welcome aboard, Joseph!
